Barack Obama is the new President elect of the United States. I am having a hard time wrapping my mind around this fact. It’s one of the coolest things I can ever remember happening in my life.
I thought McCain’s concession speech was much more gracious and sincere than I was expecting. Heck, that was a different McCain than the one who ran for President. And this one was much more likable. Obama’s speech resonated with me. He has charisma on top of charisma and I hope he will make a great President.
I will post something else tomorrow morning, as it is very late here, but I just wanted to get something up here and to acknowledge Obama’s amazing and historic night.

YAY!!!! And he did very well in my county of Osceola and Florida in general so my one little vote didn’t cause him to fall. LOL
Also, my fiance came home from work with good news for me. This elderly lady he works with was undecided but was on her way to the polls anyways. He had told her how distraught I was all day over not being able to vote so she asked him, “Who was she planning to vote for?” He told her that I had planned to vote Obama. So this complete stranger to me (I’ve never met her) told him that she will vote Obama in my honor. She left work and voted Obama!!!! I cried tears of joy and appreciation that someone I had never met, who was undecided, made the decision to vote a certain way just for me.
I love this country!!!

We were in tears watching last night. I am so proud of my country. All of New York City was buzzing yesterday. Everywhere I went people were jazzed about the election; total strangers bonding over Obama buttons on lapels. It is thrilling to experience such a moment in history.

I am so proud that Florida (and in particularly Orange County) chose Obama. I’m also ashamed that so many of my fellow Floridians voted Yes on 2. In a state where there are so many widowed seniors finding love again so late in life but can’t marry because they fear losing benefits tied to their late spouse, I am amazed that there are so many people so desperate to stop gay couples from marrying that they would pass an amendment that takes away the rights of ALL unmarried couples. It’s time for Florida to make some changes. Choosing Obama was a step in the right direction.
I can’t help but get teary eyed whenever I think about his moving speech last night. Inauguration day can’t come soon enough.

Nicole, that’s a GREAT story! I’m so glad that your voice got to be heard anyway. What a sweet lady to do that for you. I worried about you all day yesterday. I know how sickened I felt when I thought for just a few minutes that I wouldn’t be able to cast my vote.
Erikawak, I know what you mean. I told my kids to remember this day because it will be referenced for the rest of their lives.
Tricia, I feel exactly the same way. My little county always goes Republican and we went Democratic this time! Whoo hoo! Change is a comin’. But the prop 2 thing bummed me out. I don’t understand why this is a state’s rights issue. Discrimination should NEVER be states rights. Look at slavery! We need a constitutional amendment that makes ALL peole equal. Oh, that’s right, we already HAVE one. Too bad it doesn’t seem to apply to gay people in this country.
As I said before, I am a Christian and I don’t see the problem here. I know that the Bible says that being gay is a sin, but so is lying, and most people do that daily. It also says all sins are equal in God’s eyes, so why are homosexual used as this country’s moral scape-goats? I’ll never understand this stuff.
I will agree that Inauguration day can’t come soon enough. Out with Bush! Out, out damn spot!
