Good Post! At work we have been talking about the other group of “conservatives” who are working against the President, “the wealthy Right”. This might sound even a bit more “conspiratorial” than your posting, but here it goes. The wealthy people on the Right contribute millions of dollars to the Super PACs to run ads against the President and his “allies” (any Democratic candidate). This money comes from profits and capital gains that could be used to strengthen private industries and hire more workers, but instead by keeping the employment levels static, private industry keeps a stable level of profit and the Right can claim that the economic picture is not really improving. If the Right’s candidates are elected, then corporate money can again flow to the companies, hire more people, improve the economy and claim “See things are improving because of our guy and his policies” without actually passing any laws or changing a thing.
“Whew!”
There, now if you add your “racism” dimention to the picture, you get a fairly twisted view of American Politics. Just my two cents (and a vaugely paranoid rant).

No, you’re right. If you disagree with President Obama, or are a conservative republican, it does not mean you are a racist. I am friends with many conservative republicans who do not like President Obama (though their reasons ARE crazy and not well thought out, to me, and we absolutely cannot talk politics, but I digress…) What it does mean is that if someone tells me they dislike Obama, I immediately suspect they’re racist. This is because I am, perhaps, too sensitive to race these days. To be honest, I’ve got a big ol’ racism chip on my shoulder and my own bigotry was showing in this post. …Gotta work on that!

It has been a bright spot in a weary world and a good day. But I have to disagree that almost everyone who opposes Obama is a racist. Staunch conservatives would oppose any strong liberal, green, purple, black or white, regardless of their accomplishments. It’s true there is a lot of racism, both open and hidden, in this country, which can add another layer, but being a conservative does not equate with being a racist. Although I’m a pretty strong Obama supporter but I don’t agree with all of his policies. If I won’t openly confront his stands on issues I disagree with, then I am being racist because I am treating him differently than I would any white politician.

It’s good to have you post again. Wish you would do it more often.

You’re right about Mormonism – & it’s hilarious to me that they consider it to be Christianity. But then again those same folks call Obama a socialist

Great Blog comment! Happy 101st International Women’s Day! I just wanted to use that to help to illistrate the more we try to make the world a better place for everyone (equality, higher standards of living, etc) the more there are people who seem to tear everything down in the name of “God’s Law” and Morality. I have had to explain to my teenaged daughters what our legislation in VA is trying to do. The more I try to understand it the angrier I get at MY Representative and MY state Senator. They are supposed to fairly and honestly represent our region of the state (Mostly moderate with some who lean both left and right), and for years they seem to have been doing that, but in the current political environment, everyone in politics seems just so polarized. It makes it hard for me explain to my daughters the difference between health issues and religious issues when the politicians are blurring the lines so dramatically.
Well enough of my rant. I agree with you. I hope the Pig loses his supporters and sponosors and eventually his job. I’m glad to see you posted your thoughts on this issue.

I don’t know HOW a woman could possibly vote for a Republican. Between Pig here and Governor Vaginal Probe (R-Virginia), it is open warfare against women, and it is a scary, scary time to live in. As a mother of a virgin daughter who is on birth control for fibroids, I would LOVE to not have to pay $20 more for each pack of birth control than I do for regular prescriptions. It should be the same co-pay… It is not fair… and will get much, much worse if a Republican wins the Presidency.
